With a rejuvenated coaching set up, a host of new talent and the squad retention of the previous season; Pont RFC are fresh and very much determined for the 2017-18 season.
After 6-7 weeks of hard graft; Deneen putting the boys through fitness pain, Clarkey beasting the forwards up and Maggsy sharpening the back line the squad was eager for the first pre-season game against St Josephs (Newport)
The home fixture did not disappoint – with the forwards providing solid platforms at set piece and thundering forward gaining valuable yardage at every opportunity the back line could show off their new electric style of play in what was a very convincing 40-0 victory.
With 5 tries on the board and happy faces all round it was evident that the pre-season work was paying off and although, as always, there are development areas to tweek the squad looked very sharp!
