Ref inflicts misery on Pont

Pont travelled to Trinant for a local derby for a Division 3 east C mid table clash. The game was a physical encounter from the off, Pont's openside Chris Kelly got well aquainted with 3 Trinant forwards early on in an off the ball incident but both sides started evenly and traded early penalties and the hosts were leading 6-3. Trinant did their best slow the game down at every opportunity and the referee failed to bring out the yellow card for repeated infringments. Full back Dan Morgan then narrowly missed a long range penalty to even the scores before Pont's outside half then saw yellow for a high tackle, harsh, but by this point the Trinant touchline were heavily influencing the Referee. The Troggs took full advantage of the extra man and a well worked move down the blindside saw the Trinant centre go over for the first try just before half time.

HT: Trinant 13-3 Pontllanfraith

The second half started in a similar fashion, with the Trinant forwards continuing to kill the ball. An off the ball scuffle then saw more cards brandished. Second row Chris Price was involved in fisticuffs with a Trinant back rower, the referee unfortunately didn't see the incident, but after consulting the TMO (a.k.a Trinant sideline) he decided to red card Chris Price whilst only brandishing a yellow card for the home sides offender. The resulting penalty saw the Troggs extend their lead to 16-3.

Shortly after Pontllanfraith were down to 13 men. After the referees failure to deal with Trinant being offside all match, Tom Haddock decided to physically point out the Trinant player who was 2 yards offside. Tom's act of pointing was deemed to be a yellow card offence, two yellow's became red.

With two men on the sidelines Trinant made the most of space out wide to go over for their second try. Soon after Pont were down to 12 men after another Yellow Card, this time the Pont Winger was guilty of telling the Ref a few home truths. In fairness, this one was deserving of a yellow card, but understandably a few tempers had gone in the Pontllanfraith team.

Pont defended heroically with 12 men and actually scored whilst three men down, quick tap and go from Scrum Half Matthew Davis saw him Jink over the line for a try which Ben Lloyd converted.
