Following the high of the victory over West Mon, Pontllanfraith endured a poor couple of weeks both on and off the field. Firstly, the club was broken into resulting in major damage to the fire exit and loss of money from the safe. And secondly the team exited the WRU shield following a below par performance against a very strong Penybanc team.
What’s followed in the past week has from the Bettws RFC and other clubs in the local community has been nothing short of outstanding.
Between the raffle and the auction a fantastic £569 was raised following the game at Bettws. The Rugby was good but the hospitality after was simply amazing.
Meanwhile on the pitch, Vince Welsh came out of retirement to help a shorthanded Pont and scored the opening try. In the end, league leaders Bettws were too strong and run out 24-5 winners.
