Pont travelled to Abertillery to face Old Tyleryans looking to get their promotion push back on track following the defeat to a resurgent Bettws team.
Having not played in 5 weeks a little bit of rust was expected but winger Ben Walker went over in the corner to give Pont an early lead. Some good territory from the home side then allowed them to draw the scores level after their number 8 went over from the back of 5 meter scrum. Lee Butcher then restored the lead as once again Pont exploited the space out wide. Old T's answered back with a penalty before Ben Walker crossed over for his second try.
This fixture marked the return of Jonathan Jones to the starting line up. Pont's player of the season for the last two years made his return following a nasty knee injury he picked up in pre season and produced a dazzling 70 yard run to set up captain Nathan Meyrick for the bonus point try before half time.
Mark Counsell added to the scoring after half time going over from 5 yards out after a quick tap penalty. Kevin Chamberlain then added two scores, the second of which was a contender for try of the season with some beautiful interplay between the backs. Andrew Deneen then crossed for Pont's 8th and final try after a good break from Tom Haddock.
Shoutouts to Brady Reynolds and Alex Prosser who both put in massive performances on their first starts for the club and big thanks to Greyhound Rob Pro for coming out of retirement to provide prop cover.
Final Score: Old Tyleryans 8-48 Pontllanfraith.
