This weekend Pont were originally due to play a league fixture, but the weekend freed up due to Brynithel pulling out of the league. With a big league fixture against Forgeside on the horizon, Pontllanfraith hosted Cardiff Internationals in a friendly at the Welfare ground with an early kick off to avoid clashing with the Rugby World Cup.
CIACS arrived without props, so they took to the field with two Pont boys in their front row. It was good to see Matthew Morgan back in a Pont jersey and he made immediate impact with a good run setting up the opening try for Ieaun-Rhys Beal. Centre Josh Morrill then extended Ponts lead after another line break from Morgan. Pont prop Tomos Hamer then hit back for the visitors from close range before switching jerseys in the second half. Full back Beal then continued his rich try scoring form by adding another after Kian Dugmore charged down a clearance kick.
Captain Jake Bean added two second half tries for the hosts before the CIACS openside darted over in the corner late on. Penalties were once again an issue for Pontllanfraith and both Kian Dugmore and Brendan Williams spent 10 minutes in the sin bin either side of half time.
Full Time: Pontllanfraith 31-13 CIACS
Big thanks to CIACS for travelling up to us despite the World Cup game in the afternoon, look forward to a return fixture in the near future.
