Greyhounds denied victory in opening fixture

Pont Greyhounds, the newly formed veterans team travelled to Usk last Saturday to face Usk Veterans with over 30 squad members ready to dust off their boots.

Usk got off to the better start with a try in the opening minutes but Jonathan "Tosh" Haynes hit back with a try in the corner. In the second third of the match Pont's scrum was dominating and was awarded a penalty try for their efforts. Usk's outside back were dangerous though and two tries for them saw them take a 19-12 lead into the final third. Steve Reynolds blasted over from short range to tie the scores at 19-19 before Usk intercepted a loose pass from Simon Deneen to race home for the winning try.

Final Score: Usk Vets 24-19 Pontllanfraith Greyhounds.
