Ponts Promotion Push Continues.

Pontllanfraith made the short journey to Cwmcarn. Aided by strong travelling Support, Pont were keen to pick up a bonus point win to gain ground on Newport Saracens and Hollybush, neither of whom were in league action this week.

After a slow start last week against Abersychan, Pont were determined to start stong and thats exactly what they did. On Cwmcarn's scrum in their own 22, Pont drove Cwmcarn back causing the ball to pop out the side of the scrum where Matthew Davis picked it up and fed Hari Miles who crossed the tryline after brushing off a couple of tacklers. Soon after, a strong carry from Jeff Williams got Pont well over the gain line, and from good quick ball the ball went through all the backs hands and Kev Chamberlain went over after a lovely dummy from the former Ynysddu man. A break from Andrew Deneen set up Pont's next score, but the outside half came up 5 meters short, before Mark Counsell bundled over the line from short range. Another short range score followed by centre Ben Walker to give the boys in blue a bonus point after half an hour. Mark "Sparky" Johnston then scored either side of Half Time to continue his run of scoring in every game he's started this year.

Cwmcarn then got on the scoreboard after suprisingly electing to kick a penalty despite being 34-0 down. Hari Miles then picked up his second try of the game leaping over a ruck from a yard out. Much to their credit, the home side were enjoying more possession and territory in the second half and got a well deserved try in the corner for their efforts. It was Pont who had the final score of the game though, a well executed lineout move from Jeff Williams and Chris Price sent Pricey over the try line for Pont's 8th try.
