Losing Bonus Point for Pont

Pontllanfraith travelled to New Panteg looked to avenge the 33-0 beating the Pontypool outfit inflicted on Pont earlier in the season.

Pont got off to a flying start when Tom Haddock broke through the Panteg line and with the full back to beat, Haddock produced a perfect little chip into the corner which winger Mike Wake collected to go over for the opening try. New Panteg got back into the game with a try of their own before Pont re-took the lead when Mark Counsell went over for a try from close range. New Panteg's scrum definately had the upper hand and a strong scrum from 5 meters out saw them level up the scores again towards the end of the first half. Then just before half time, Pont's attacking lineout misfired deep in the opponents 22 and New Panteg punished the overthrow by counter attacking the length of the field to take a 19-12 lead to Half Time.

New Panteg put the game to bed in the first 20 minutes of the second half by running in four tries, lots of costly errors by Pont combined with fantastic counter attacking by the pacey New Panteg backs. Trailing 43-12, it would of been easy for Pont to roll over and concede more, but from a quick tap a go penalty and some nice hands saw full back Joe Harris race down the touchline to score. From the restart Pont got over the gainline a few times before Tom Haddock made a lovely clean break only to be thwarted by a last ditch tackle from the Panteg full back, but Haddock produced an outrageous offload to send Hooker Nathan Meyrick over under the post to earn Pont a losing bonus point.

Next week Pont are home to Trinant in the league.
